Despite its name, ringworm infection is not actually caused by worms. The real culprit here is a group of fungi called dermatophytes. These fungi are present on our hair, nails, skin and bed and it can cause infection on the face, scalp, arms, legs and especially on the skin near the joints. Red, scaly and ring-shaped rashes appear and are formed in a circular manner. While ringworm is generally harmless, it is super itchy and can be uncomfortable.
