Delhi Reports Its First Omicron COVID-19 Case, Tally Reaches 21 In India So Far


The variant of concern, Omicron variant has been detected in India along with 39 more countries. This has raised concern all over the world. There have been 21 cases of omicron strain of COVID-19 in India so far. First two were detected in Karnataka earlier last week and then another case was detected in Maharashtra. After this case, another marine engineer who got infected with Omicron variant with 7 more people in Maharashtra. This is very concerning as we hear about the high transmission rate of this virus variant. Recently Delhi has witnessed its first case of Omicron variant as well which has put administration department on the back seat.

Delhi’s First Omicron Case

Delhi first omicron variant case has been detected today, on Sunday which makes a total of 21 cases so far of this strain. The patient has been admitted to LNJP Hospital. The infected person is a Tanzania returnee who was detected with COVID-19 on Saturday, soon it was found that he had omicron variant of the virus after which he was isolated and admitted to the hospital. People are being tracked who met him in last couple of days and he has been put under observation.

21 Cases of Omicron in India

There have been a total of 21 cases of omicron variant infected people in India now including this Delhi case. First two cases were detected in Karnataka in which a South African national and Bengaluru doctor got infected. The cause of concern is that doctor did not have any travel history which means he may have got infected from the regional area.  

The other case which came was of a 72 year old Zimbabwe returnee who was infected with Omicron on Saturday. Then another 33 year old marine engineer was tested positive for Omicron variant of corona virus. The marine engineer travelled back to Mumbai from South Africa via Dubai in the late last month. Hence this shows that cases of Omicron are increasing every day, and this is even affecting the total COVID-19 cases in the country.

17 Cases of Omicron Variant Detected On Sunday

A total of 17 cases of omicron variant of corona virus were detected on Sunday itself. Most of them who were tested positive had some link with Internation travel from African countries. All those people have been isolated and officials are trying to track down people whom they met in past few days.

9 cases have emerged from Jaipur, four of them had returned from South Africa recently. Health secretary of Rajasthan made a statement after this confirming that nine people are infected with Omicron Variant in Rajasthan till now.

Seven more cases were detected in Maharashtra, with tally of state reaching 9 cases now. This includes a 44 year old Nigerian citizen of Indian origin woman, her two daughters and her brother who is 45 years old. His brother’s daughters were also tested positive for Omicron variant after which they have been isolated and admitted to the hospital. The seventh case is of a man who travelled from Finland last month and tested positive for Omicron variant COVID-19.

A total of 8895 new cases of corona virus have been lodged today with a total of 99,155 active cases right now. The daily rise in corona virus infection has been less overall but this new Omicron variant could possibly bring the third wave if we are not prepared well.
