Is It Time To Remove Masks? Know Changes In Covid-19 Restrictions

COVID-pandemic finally seems like coming to a stop with cases falling down rapidly and the rate of fatalities decreasing. Even though there is still a probability of fourth COVID wave globally, the vaccination has prevented any such rise in cases in recent times. There were many social norms and restrictions that were implemented in order to prevent wide spread of infection in public. Central government has now lifted many of these restrictions that will be implemented from tomorrow i.e. 2nd April 2022. It has been 2 years of COVID-19 and its multiple waves affecting people adversely. Several states have even removed all the restriction, let us look what will follow from tomorrow onwards. 

COVID- Restrictions Coming to an End 

Finally, there is a big sigh of relief in people as Central Government of India has announced that implementation of curbs that had been put following the COVID-19 outbreak will be removed now. It also asked states to remove or ease up the restrictions that have been put regarding the corona virus strain as country moves towards normalcy. Home ministry has said that wearing of face masks and implementation of social distancing norms will be continued.

No More Masks Required? 

Several states however have lifted all sorts of restrictions regarding COVID-19 from 2nd April 2022. This was decided on Thursday 31st March as some of the worst hit states see cases dipping to minimal. One of worst hit states like Maharashtra and West Bengal have lifted all the curbs, including wearing of masks in public places. Whereas Delhi decided to do with lifting the mandatory wearing of masks in the national capital.

Home Ministry on COVID-19 Awareness  

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla mentioned in a letter to chief secretaries of all states that capacities have been developed for management of pandemic. Various aspects such as monthly surveillance, contact tracing, treatment, vaccination and hospitalization have been sorted in past 24 months. He said that high level of public awareness regarding COVID-protocols and appropriate COVID-19 behavior have been put in place. Because of all this, there is a significant improvement in COVID pandemic situation and things have been managed.  

He mentioned that considering all the improvement in the situation and management techniques that have taken place over last two years, National Disaster Management Authority has taken decision that there is no further need to invoke provisions of DM Act for COVID containment measures. There won’t be any further orders from March 31st 2022 by Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the same.

COVID-19 Cases in India

Currently, COVID-19 cases in India are very low with just 1,225 new coronavirus cases in the previous day. Even the active cases have seen a dip, now at 14,307 cases all over the country. There have been 28 fatalities in the past 24 hours. Rate of infection is also quite low and active cases make 0.03% of total infections, which is good news. National COVID-19 recovery rate remains at 98.76%. Positivity rate has declined to 0.20 percent on a weekly basis.
