On the other hand, pheromones are secreted outside the body, and they influence the behavior of another individual.

Androstenone and androstadienone are two closely related steroids. According to certain researchers, they are thought to have pheromonal effects. But human sexual behavior is complex. Further research presented conflicting findings which indicate that these steroids have no effect on human attraction.

With pheromone perfumes, one person may feel like it is working. They might suddenly find that they are attracting other individuals. But not much solid research is available to back this. It is also possible that the attraction is a result of the fragrance smelling good, which can boost confidence. And confidence is often associated with attractiveness.

Scientists at San Francisco University conducted research and found that women who had pheromone added to their perfume reported a more than 50% increase in sexual attention from men.

This idea that hormones can increase your sexual attractiveness is not new though. One 2008 experiment presented interesting findings in this regard. It showed that women, who were exposed to a specific kind of pheromone, found some men more attractive. But that this study was small and similar trials are few and far between. Some, however, argue that pheromone perfumes boost confidence – which, in turn, boost attractiveness.

When it comes to the question whether fragrances can actually attract the opposite sex or not, it seems the verdict is still vague. There is no solid evidence that proves these products actually can do so.
