Asthma can be caused because of inflammation in the lungs. Asthma can cause a person to have serious breathlessness. Reducing the amount of air that can pass through the lungs can result to different types of asthma. As World Asthma Day is coming nearby, we would be focusing on topics that could enhance knowledge on different topics related to asthma and its related issues. Each type of asthma can cause different triggers that can make the situation worse. It is important to understand each type of asthma briefly in order to regulate the symptoms and reduce effect of the following asthma.   

Allergic Asthma 

This is one of the most common types of asthma that affect people worldwide. Around 55-60% of people having asthma fall for this type of condition. There are certain allergens that could increase the risk of allergic asthma- 

  • Pollens 
  • Pet dander 
  • Mold spores 
  • Food products that could include nuts, milk, eggs and other items 
  • Dust mites, cockroach feces
  • Irritants in the air that contain tobacco smoke and car fumes 
  • Heavily fragranced products and perfumes

You need to find the treatment for the following irritants that are causing allergic asthma and try to manage it. Doctor might prescribe you some drug to control the allergy or tell you some ways to prevent it from triggering you. 

Non-Allergic Asthma 

In case of non-allergic or intrinsic asthma, it does not require an allergen to affect it or cause asthma attack. This is comparatively less common asthma that could occur more likely in women than men. This type of asthma could develop into genetic or environmental factors. For example, if you feel too much cold, then you might trigger asthma attack. Here are some other factors that could affect asthma attack in non-allergic asthma

  • Cold 
  • Humidity 
  • Stress 
  • Exercise 
  • Pollution 
  • Irritants in the air, that consists smoke 
  • Respiratory infections that include cold, flu or sinus infection 

You can treat this kind of asthma by preventing them from getting triggered by these factors. Medications can be given in some cases, whereas in others, you need to take care of the breathing and other such factors.

Seasonal Asthma 

As the name suggests, this is type of asthma who could flare up at certain condition in a particular period in the year. Symptoms only flare up in a particular or certain condition that makes the health of the person worse. Usually, it could flare up in conditions such as- 

  • Extremely cold or hot temperature, thunderstorm and sudden changes in temperature 
  • In the period of time where the air pollution gets worse 
  • Hay fever season, when levels of pollens are very high 
  • In winters, because of very cold weather or flu viruses that are prominent at that time 

Treatment- it becomes important to seek medical treatment in this condition because it helps them manage their conditions well. Otherwise, being affected by weather could have adverse effect on person’s health. You also need to take some other measures such as taking care of weather. Using masks or appropriate clothes to protect yourself from getting an attack.

Occupational Asthma 

This is a little weird situation because in India, it might not even be considered very seriously. People that have occupational asthma means that they might feel suffocating at the time of work and have normal or improved symptoms during the off period. This results to a very few people having this kind of asthma, but it is actually quite serious because it can affect the life of a person at many different levels.

This is especially evident in people who are indulged in activities related to paint chemicals, aerosols, insecticides or other harmful substances. A person might take long enough to understand the level of exposure to these types of substances. Asthma attack might occur in just 24 hours of coming in contact or could even occur at intervals of days till a month.  

People those who have occupational asthma should seek treatment from a doctor almost immediately. It is important to find the cause and be very careful with symptoms, exposure or other issues.
