Are your eyes acting weird? You may a have serious condition

The human body works in harmony, no part of the body is secluded, so anything that might be wrong can present itself as a symptom elsewhere. Eyes are the windows to a soul, and might just also be the window to your hidden health problems. Here are five reasons why your eyes might be acting bizarre.

your eyes could tell about diabetes

Diabetes

Diabetic patients have an eye exam as a part of their regular health checkup. High levels of sugar in the blood can lead to vision problems such as blurred vision. Diabetic retinopathy can cause the blood vessels in the retina to leak fluid which can distort vision. If Diabetes is causing your vision problem, your doctor might detect leakage of blood or a yellowish fluid in your eyes.

Stroke

A stroke can impair your vision completely in one or both eyes. Sudden vision loss can be a sign of stroke and must be treated immediately. Complete vision loss is not the only sign of stroke, vision abnormalities such as double or blurred vision can also show up if the nerves are damaged by a stroke. In case of a sudden change or loss of vision immediate medical assistance is required.

Thyroid problems

Your eyes might be the first telltale sign of a thyroid malfunction in your body. In a condition known as Grave’s disease, the eyes start protruding or bulging in case of thyroid imbalance in the body. Grave’s disease is an autoimmune disorder which affects the thyroid. Thyroid imbalance can also cause swelling in the eye muscles leading to vision problems such as double vision.

Autoimmune disease

Autoimmune disease can wreak havoc on your eyes. Symptoms such as dry or red eyes, vision changes, complete or partial vision loss, or pain in eyes can all be signs of autoimmune disease. Dry eyes are the most common manifestation of Rheumatoid Arthritis. If you are suffering from any autoimmune disease, it’s important to get your eyes checked regularly.

High cholesterol

Your eyes, just like any organ in your body, need a constant blood supply to work properly, any problems in the blood flow can cause abnormal functioning. The artery which carries blood to the eyes is known as carotid artery, when this artery is clogged with plaque due to high cholesterol, the blood flow to the eyes is hampered. This might cause transient vision changes and blurred vision which comes and goes.
