Dr. Surendra Kumar Chawla, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon from Fortis Hospital, Faridabad says that is a safe procedure and there are no two ways about it. Cosmetic surgery is an elective surgery therefore it is called a safe environment. However, you need to be aware of the environment you are getting the surgery done. Doctor says that you need to have plastic surgery in safe and sanitized environment. The equipment's that are used should be well maintained and person on which the plastic surgery needs to be conducted should have realistic approach.  

Actress Chethana Raj: Plastic Surgery Case 

The Kannada TV actress was undergoing a cosmetic surgery on Monday 16th May 2022. After the surgery she soon experienced breathing difficulties. She was undergoing a plastic surgery for “fat free” body. The 21-year-old actress allegedly died because of complications that took place in a private hospital due to negligence by Cosmetic Centre in which the surgery was conducted. According to media reports the fluid had accumulated in her lungs which resulted to breathing problems and shortness of breath. This is one of rare cases of complications that have occurred so far.

Is Plastic Surgery a Recommended Procedure? 

Dr. Surendra Kumar Chawla recommends plastic surgery on face. He says that if the person has any scar, deformity in face structure or any problem with the facial features, then he can surely get the plastic surgery done. If everything is discussed with the cosmetic surgeon beforehand then there are minimal chances of risks involved. You can go to the lipo surgeon to discuss about the required feature you need. This can boost the confidence of the person and help him grow better. 

Risks Associated with Plastic Surgery 

Complications of plastic surgery usually depend on the type of plastic surgery patient is opting for. In case of face, the complications are minimal and you may have the following problems if things do not go well- 

Rhinoplasty Plastic Surgery- 

  • Swelling 
  • Bleeding 
  • Infection 
  • Irregularities 
  • Deviation of the nose 
  • Implant coming out of nose 
  • Dissatisfied with procedure or surgery

Liposuction surgery- 

  • Swelling  
  • Bruises 
  • Fluid discharge in some cases 
  • Lumps and bumps on the operated location 
  • Fat ambulism 

Fat ambulism could also cause death in certain cases. However, chances of that are very rare and does not occur usually. If proper setup is considered and guidelines are followed, then the chances of complications are very few. Lumps and bumps are most common types of complications. For this, patients are usually told about the risks. It happens to people who have unrealistic expectation from their plastic surgery.

Here are some tips shared by the cosmetic surgeon to consider before going for a plastic surgery. 

  1. One should directly consult with the operating surgeon. People prefer doing everything on the phone but increases the chances of dissatisfaction.  
  2. Do not have unrealistic expectations out of plastic surgery, reality is very different from what you see in movies.  
  3. You should resolve all your queries and discuss all the points of cosmetic surgery so that there is no confusion or dissatisfaction.
