Benefits of Alkaline Diets And How To Get It From Our Food

An individual can maintain good health by balancing the body with more alkaline foods. An alkaline diet is also known by other names like acid-alkaline or alkaline ash diet. It claims to help in balancing the pH levels of the human body, enhances overall well-being, promotes healthy weight, and  prevents cancer. It is based on the concept that certain foods can make your body  produce more acid. But there are some foods and drinks that can change the acidic levels of the body or pH balance. To understand the basics, it is important to know what is an alkaline? It is basically a term that defines the state of an environment or solution that contains alkalis, which have pH levels higher than 7.

Why is alkaline-acid balance important for the body?

An acid-alkaline balance in the body can aid several functions in our body that occur only at a specific level of acidity or alkalinity. It can protect our skin, stomach, bladder, and vaginal area that are often extremely acidic. And most of the other organs and cells perform better in an alkaline pH. Certain enzymes and chemical reactions in our body work in a better way at a specific pH, and a minor alteration in the pH can have a major impact on normal body function. The appropriate pH level of your body is around 7.4.

Western foods usually make our bodies highly acidic because they are full of poor fats, too much protein, sugar, and not enough fibre. When our body becomes highly acidic, it can result in inflammation and a greater risk of other diseases and disorders. On the other hand, an alkaline rich diet can help in balancing the pH levels, eventually reducing acidity.

Along with reducing inflammation, an alkaline diet also prevents the growth of yeast and bad bacteria, common in autistic children. This is also helpful for better detoxification of the body. Listed below are the benefits of an alkaline diet according to a study in National Library Of Medicine

  • Reduces the risk of chronic diseases

  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Fresh fruits
  • Root vegetables (like radishes)
  • Broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts
  • Garlic
  • Lemons
  • Cabbage
  • Cayenne
  • Avocado
  • Celery
  • Olive oil
  • Green tea
  • Cucumber
  • Alkaline water

Alkaline foods are essential for maintaining pH balance in our body. Most experts say that taking a balanced meal with a good mix of all the food groups is vital to improve overall well-being, instead of limiting yourself to specific food items. Hence, incorporate alkaline foods in your diet to maintain the pH balance of the body and promote overall health.
