Every child is special and an autistic child is more than special. He might not be as easygoing as other kids but they are smarter than normal children. On the World Autism Awareness Day, we would like to appreciate the efforts of parents who are parenting an autistic child in the best way. Parenting isn’t easy especially when you are raising an autistic child. These kids are special and so are their needs. They are different from normal kids and hence, it is difficult for them to tune with other kids. Their actions, reactions, needs, basically everything is dissimilar to other children. You may get irritated sometimes handling your special child is beyond any other thing! It sometimes gets tough to deal with them and we totally understand what parents go through. #1 Encourage them to socialize with people. 

Autistic children hesitate to connect with people other than family. It is extremely difficult for them to socialize with people and communicate with them. Some kids even behave rudely when forced to socialize! You should push your kid to interact with people. Stay with him throughout for moral support, that he surely needs in the beginning.

#2 Spend some alone time with your kid

Devote at least an hour to enjoy some quality time with your dear child. Ask them about their day, how are they feeling and discuss other things with them to build a comfort space. This would help them to open up and share things with you over time.

#3 Build a non-verbal communication with your child

There are times when they like to stay silent and not talk to anyone. For such moments, it is important that you learn to connect to them non-verbally. Notice their actions as to how they react in various occasions. Their body postures, hand gestures, and other such elements to understand what is going on in their mind at that very moment.

#4 Plan their meal according to their taste preferences

One may make their normal kids eat food forcibly but you cannot do this with an autistic child. On the other hand, you mustn't compromise with the nutritive values. So, you must learn to make foods that are not only nutritious but also loved by your kid.

 

#5 Take them out regularly

Whether you go for a walk or a fun evening in the park, help your child step out of the house and their comfort zone. They might not like this in the initial days but as they get used to this routine, they’ll surely love it.

#6 Teach your other children how to behave with their autistic sibling

If you have kids besides the autistic one, you must teach them to behave rightly with their special sibling. In most of the instances, autistic children are bullied by their normal siblings! Don’t let that happen in your house.

Every child loves presents and rewards. This is a tried-and-tested method to better the behavior of your child. But don’t make it a habit!
