Almost everyone has experienced stress at work, but for some it’s a never-ending problem. A typical day at workplace may include ever-increasing workload, office politics, tasteless canteen food and an annoying boss who constantly attempts to get on your nerves. Work stress is a serious matter as it not only affects your work but can also have serious consequences on the quality of life. So, is there a way in which you can maintain steady focus throughout the day? Here are six essential tips that will help you beat stress at workplace.
Stay Calm
We tend to experience stress when we feel that the situation is going out of control. Therefore, whenever you feel stressed out just take a break, talk to someone or listen to your favourite music. You need to relieve your mind of all problems so that you can think clearly, get new perspectives with new ideas. Do not confuse staying calm with being laidback. Staying calm helps you understand when you are approaching the threshold of your anger and irritation.

Avoid Coffee
You know that coffee is your thing and you just cannot do without it. But what you don’t know is that caffeine acts as a liquid stress booster, increasing adrenaline production and suppressing adenosine, a natural relaxant in the brain. Eliminating caffeine is more effective than any other stress-reduction strategy.
Identify Self-imposed Stress
You need to learn to stop self-imposing stress on yourself by boosting your self-confidence instead of seeking approval from others. You begin to worry when you are too caught up in others' perceptions about you. Once you shift your focus from others to the work itself, you are more likely to impress your superiors with your work.
Meditate
A consistent meditation practice even if it’s only for five minutes a day can be very helpful in lowering blood pressure and controlling the thoughts that trigger stress. Next time when you get stressed on getting another work assignment when you already have an overflowing to do list, just stop and take a deep breath. Sit back and meditate for five minutes.
Eliminate Interruptions
You are already running behind the deadline and you still have to finish a lot of work. On top of that you are bombarded with emails, phone calls, instant messages, etc that make you more distracted than ever. You may not be able to control these interrupters, but you can control your response. You need to know which phone calls and messages need your immediate response and which do not. When you need to focus, you need to cut down unwanted interruptions.
Eat Well and Sleep Well
Not eating well and sleeping well will cause stress in your system. Processed foods can cause you to feel anxious. People who do not get sufficient sleep are more likely to feel stressed at workplace. Therefore, you need to nourish your body by taking proper diet and getting ample sleep to take on challenges that you will face at work.
