Nausea is a sickening feeling in the upper stomach that makes you feel an involuntary urge to vomit. It can knock at your door anytime because of a plethora of reasons and dealing with it can be a bit of a challenge. And you will be surprised to know that yoga can actually help you with that.

Yoga Asanas For Nausea

Supta Virasana

Supta Virasana should be your go-to yoga pose when it comes to dealing with nausea. This pose lifts the weight of the diaphragm from the stomach and liver, giving them more space to ‘breathe’ and get well. To perform this pose, sit on your knees and slowly lie down in the same position. Then extend the arms and stretch them over the head. Hold the pose to get rid of those uncomfortable nauseating feelings.

Baddha Konasana

Baddha Konasana or the Cobbler’s pose is an easy stretch that helps open up the hips and groin. It stimulates the abdominal organs and helps alleviate the symptoms of nausea. To perform this pose, sit up straight with a long spine. Bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet together. Press the outer edges of your feet strongly and hold onto your big toes with a yogi toe lock. 

Uttanasana

Uttanasana or the standing forward-bend pose is another asana that can help you overcome the feeling of nausea. Stand straight with your feet hip-width-distance and stretch your arms over the head with the palms facing each other. Slowly fold forward and bring the fingertips to the floor. If possible, bring the entire palms to the floor to maximize the stretch. 

Paschimottanasana

Paschimottanasana or the seated forward-bend pose is very similar to Uttanasana and helps relieve nausea in the same manner. To perform this pose, sit with your back straight and your legs outstretched. Slowly bend forward, take your hands as close to your feet as possible, and hold the pose.

Viparita Karani

Viparita Karani or ‘the legs up the wall’ is another pose that helps regulate the oxygen throughout the body and helps alleviate nausea. For this, lie on a flat surface and make sure that your tailbone is facing the wall. Bring your hips as close to the wall as possible and walk your feet up the wall till your body takes an L-shape.
