World Iodine Deficiency Day 2021: How To Improve Your Iodine Deficiency?

Iodine is a an essential micronutrient that is found naturally in foods, can be added in meals and is also available in the form of supplements. Iodine is important to produce our thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which play a vital role in manufacturing protein and in the overall functioning of our metabolism. Thus, it helps in maintaining the metabolic rate. Iodine is required by the human body for the development of the central nervous and skeletal systems. It is even necessary for a pregnant and lactating mother to consume enough amounts of iodine as it is beneficial for fetus and breastfed babies.

Eating iodine rich foods or taking iodine supplements as suggested by your doctor can help bringing the iodine levels back to normal in your body. Every year, World Iodine Deficiency Day is marked on October 21.
