In line with this, a new report has found that 45% of India's population is teetering on the brink of being classified as unhealthy. 

The latest GOQii’s India Fit Report 2024 titled ‘Thriving at Any Age: The Blueprint for Healthy Longevity,’ sheds light on a nation facing potential health crises. The report, compiled from data from over six million users, revealed that 59% of women were categorised as unhealthy compared to 40% of men, exposing a concerning health gap between genders. 

This revelation calls for a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to this health crisis and the most common diseases affecting Indians today.

As per the GOQii Report, these are the most prevalent diseases in India: 

High Blood Pressure

Hypertension is prevalent in India, influenced by unhealthy diets, stress, and sedentary lifestyles. It is the most common concern in India, affecting almost 23% of the population. This highlights the need for public awareness and lifestyle modifications to control high blood pressure rates.

High Cholesterol

High cholesterol is the second leading cause of death in India, driven by factors like unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and tobacco/alcohol consumption. The report suggested that early detection and awareness programs can significantly impact cholesterol outcomes.

Diabetes

India faces a diabetes epidemic affecting 17% of the population. The causes, as per the report are sedentary lifestyles, high-calorie diets, lack of sleep, and genetic predispositions. Lifestyle interventions, including regular exercise and healthy eating, are key to managing and preventing diabetes.

Thyroid Disorders

8% of the population suffers from thyroid disorder, mainly driven by iodine deficiency and autoimmune illness. Lifestyle changes, stress management, and medication play a crucial role in managing thyroid-related health issues.
