5 Weight Loss Tips That Never Work

From wrapping your belly overnight to drinking only detox juices, you can easily find weight loss tips like these going viral on social media every other day. No matter how many protein or fat-loss supplements hit the market daily, weight loss remains one of people's biggest concerns. Losing weight is not difficult; all you need to do is follow the basic principles and stay away from fad diets and viral trends. So if you are on a mission to lose weight or struggling to fit into your favourite jeans, here are five weight loss tips to stay away from.

1 If You Are Working Out, It's Okay To Eat As Much As You Want

Exercise and diet are both vital  when it comes to losing weight. However, if you want to see results, you must be in a calorie deficit. Eating whatever you want can result in  high-calorie intake, which can stall your weight loss. Moreover, weight loss is a long-term game; you must exercise and maintain a calorie deficit for at least six weeks to see visible results.

2 Crash Diet Is The Way To Go

If you've ever spent time on the internet deciding which diet to follow for weight loss, you've probably come across low-calorie diets or under 1000-calorie diet plans. The diets that restrict you to a certain amount of calories are called crash diets. Crash diets guarantee instant weight loss, but that weight loss is unhealthy. Your weight will return when you return to normal life and begin eating again. The best thing you can do is gradually reduce your calories by 200 per week.

3 Don't Eat Post Sunset

The idea behind not eating anything after sunset is to allow at least a three hour gap between your last meal and bedtime. Starving yourself unnecessarily from sunset till the next morning can result in a slower metabolism. Metabolism is the key to losing weight, so your goal should be to boost your metabolism and listen to your body, whether it wants food or not.

4 Follow Your Diet For Six Days And Then Have A Cheat Day

If you've ever tried to lose weight or started a diet, you're probably familiar with the concept of a once-a-week cheat day. A cheat day is a day when you are allowed to stray from your diet and eat your favourite foods, essentially the foods you have been craving all week. In reality, cheat days spoil your progress because your calorie intake rises as a result, increasing your weekly calorie intake. Instead, have a cheat meal rather than a cheat day. The cheat meal should also include some form of protein.

5 Obsessing Over Protein

Regardless of what your goal is – weight loss or weight gain – it is often advised to consume a lot of protein. However, when it comes to shedding pounds, it is recommended to avoid carbs and include more protein. The idea is that protein should be a staple in every meal, and carbs should be consumed only once or twice a day. Not consuming carbs can lead to a lack of fibre in the diet, which can further cause constipation and indigestion. So, the next time you cook chicken, include some carbs, such as rice, to help it absorb better.
