UP Minister Urges Dengue Awareness In Key Meeting To Combat Rising Cases

In light of the rising number of dengue cases, Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development Minister, AK Sharma, recently held a high-level meeting to address the pressing issue. The meeting, held on Thursday, was focused on increasing public awareness and implementing robust measures to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne illness. Dengue, along with other vector-borne diseases like malaria and chikungunya, has seen a worrying spike in cases across various parts of the state, prompting the government to take immediate action.

Call for Immediate Action on Stagnant Water

A key point of discussion during the meeting was the elimination of water stagnation, which is a major breeding ground for mosquitoes. Minister AK Sharma directed local bodies to tackle the problem of stagnant water in both urban and rural areas, instructing them to identify and address mosquito breeding sites promptly. The urgency of this step was highlighted, as stagnant water is known to be the primary environment for mosquitoes to breed, contributing to the spread of dengue.

As part of the government’s ongoing Dastak campaign, which focuses on health awareness and disease prevention, Sharma stressed the importance of not only reactive measures but also preventive efforts. He urged local municipalities to be proactive in curbing the mosquito population by regularly inspecting potential breeding grounds and addressing waterlogging problems.

Officials Urged to Involve Citizens in Preventive Measures

Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Amrit Abhijat, echoed the call for proactive action, emphasizing that combating dengue requires a collective effort. He urged officials to ensure that the public is fully engaged in the initiative. Abhijat also called for the formation of dedicated teams that would work towards maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in vulnerable areas, thereby reducing the risk of mosquito breeding.

He further urged the health department to ramp up mosquito control measures. This includes regular fogging and the use of anti-larval treatments to eliminate mosquito larvae before they can develop into adult mosquitoes. Regular fogging operations, particularly in high-risk areas, were highlighted as an essential step in reducing the mosquito population and preventing the further spread of the disease.

Municipal Commissioners and Health Officials Report on Progress

During the meeting, municipal commissioners and executive officers from various cities and towns provided updates on the measures currently being taken to control dengue outbreaks in their respective regions. They presented reports on waterlogged areas and mosquito hotspots, detailing efforts made to alleviate these issues. These officials were instructed to work on a "mission mode," meaning they are to act swiftly and efficiently to address the problems identified. The sense of urgency conveyed by Sharma indicated that controlling the spread of dengue is now a top priority for the state government.

In addition to water management and mosquito control, early detection of dengue cases was also stressed during the meeting. Health department officials were urged to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment to prevent complications arising from the disease, which can sometimes be fatal if not addressed promptly.

Widespread Awareness Campaigns in Full Swing

Sharma also underscored the need for a massive awareness campaign aimed at educating the public about how to protect themselves from dengue. The public needs to be vigilant and informed about preventive steps such as eliminating stagnant water in their homes and surroundings, using mosquito repellents, and ensuring proper waste management to avoid conditions conducive to mosquito breeding.

The presence of other key officials, including the Director of Urban Local Bodies, Anuj Kumar Jha, and the Joint Director of the Health Department, Dr Pankaj Kumar, further illustrated the government’s determination to combat dengue on multiple fronts. The officials discussed ways to intensify these campaigns to ensure that they reach every citizen in the state.
