Caffeinated foods and beverages
You can get relief from menstrual symptoms by avoiding foods and beverages that contain caffeine such as coffee, tea and soft drinks. These can worsen symptoms such as anxiety, depression and breast tenderness. Drink herbal teas or plenty of water to keep your body hydrated instead of consuming caffeinated beverages.

The best way to do that is by avoiding processed foods as they are typically packed with sodium. Instead of processed foods, eat whole foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, poultry, nuts, whole grains and unsaturated fats like olive oil. All these foods naturally contain less sodium, promoting overall health.
Consumption of alcohol during periods can worsen the symptoms and can even lead to depression. Alcohol can act as a blood thinner which increases the flow and causes more discomfort. It is best to stay away from alcohol when you have your periods.
Sugary foods like candies, cookies, and cakes are a big no during periods. Such foods can elevate your mood for a short time but they worsen the pain. If you want to eat something sweet, go for fruits like melon, mango or peach.

Commercially baked foods contain high trans-fats, which can drive the estrogen level up. When you eat these baked foods during your periods, you tend to feel a sudden pain in the uterus. Eating bread with high fibre is a better way to help you through your menstruation.
