What are Mouth Ulcers?
According to Dr Nihal, "Mouth ulcers are painful lesions that can occur in the mouth on the gums, tongue or below it, palate, and cheeks." He added that they can be shelled, oval, and has well-defined yellow or white boundaries.
"These lesions are pointy and pus-filled, meaning that they contain less blood. They can range in size from tiny to large, with the larger ones being more painful and taking longer to heal," said Dr Nihal.

Causes of Mouth Ulcers
He said, “Bad habits, such as sharing personal items such as habits, can also cause mouth ulcers.” He said that they can also be triggered by trauma inside the mouth.
Further, hormones and nutrient deficiency can also cause mouth ulcers. They can also result as a result of a reaction to eatables, such as spicy foods. Canker sores are also more common in patients who have a weak immune system.
Ways To Cure Mouth Ulcers
Saltwater Rinse
A saltwater rinse is one of the easiest and most effective home treatments for mouth ulcers. Dr Nihal Said, "Salt has antiseptic properties that can help reduce inflammation and promote healing."
Honey
According to research published on the Science Direct portal, honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce pain and promote healing and can be used in the treatment of ulcers and oral problems.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contains antibacterial properties that can aid in the reduction of inflammation and promote healing of ulcers.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that help alleviate the discomfort associated with mouth ulcers and quicken the healing process.
Baking Soda
Baking soda has alkaline properties that can help neutralise acids in your mouth and reduce pain.

How To Apply
In the case of saltwater rinse, you can dissolve one teaspoon of it in a cup of warm water. Dr Nihal recommended swishing this solution in your mouth for about 30 seconds, then spitting it out, and repeating this several times a day.
Similarly, you can make a paste using one teaspoon of baking soda with a small amount of water. Then, apply this paste directly to the ulcer and wait a few minutes before rinsing it. When it comes to honey, coconut oil, and aloe vera, you can apply a small amount directly to the ulcer and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing your mouth with warm water.
