A new study has revealed that betaine which is nutrition found in shellfish and beets actually enhance the performance of athletes by almost six percent when added to a sports drink. This study has been published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.

Thomas Swensen, who is the Exercise and Sport Sciences Chair at the Ithaca College had supervised the survey and came to the conclusion that the betaine might in fact contribute to creatine synthesis. This creatine synthesis is responsible for improving, strengthening and giving power to short term performances. This new study could make athletes and people in similar profession more vibrant and powerful when it comes to performances.

Thomas Swensen also mentioned that the future researches should elucidate the mechanism of how this betaine supplementation actually improves a performance.
