You would often find yourself rubbing your eyes. This could be due to dirt, dust, sleepiness or it may also be due to eye infection. But rubbing the eyes is not the right thing to do. It is better that you avoid rubbing and try other remedies as it can worsen your eye health. If you also experience dry eyes, burning eyes or dirt inside the eyes along with itchiness, this could be concerning. In some cases, itchiness is due to allergens which may aggravate redness and swollen eyes. Rubbing would cause the allergens to spread in the eyes and this is not good. Instead, try some remedies to get rid of itching without affecting eye health.
Home remedies for itchy eyes
Place a cold, wet cloth on the eyes
Itchy eyes can be a great discomfort, and the first thing that our hands look for is some coolness. Hence if your eyes are constantly itching primarily due to dust, fatigue or more, one of the oldest remedies is placing a cold, wet cloth on the eyes. This would soothe the eyes and relieve itchiness & discomfort.
Aloe vera juice
Another prove remedy is aloe vera gel which is widely used for skincare purposes. In a blender, add a teaspoon aloe vera gel, 1 ice cube and 1 teaspoon water. Blend it and transfer the mix into a bowl. Dip a cotton ball in this cool mixture and place it on your eyelids. Keep it for 2-3 minutes to get instant relief.
Cold milk and rose water
Milk and rose water are great for the skin. To use this mixture as itchy eyes home remedy, just mix equal portions of cold milk and rose water. Dip a cotton ball in this and keep it on the eyelids until you get relief.
Chamomile is widely used as an infused tea option but it is also a great remedial option for itchy eyes. You can use chamomile flower if you can get that or use chamomile oil or chamomile tea bag. The most feasible option is a chamomile tea bag as it is easily available. Brew yourself a chamomile tea and place the used tea bag in the deep freezer. Put that tea bag on the eyes.

Fennel seeds or saunf is not just a refreshing ingredient but it is also a powerful home remedy for eye problems. Prepare fennel water by boiling one tablespoon fennel seeds in one cup of water. After it cools down, wash your eyes with fennel water.
Coriander is a common spice and you wouldn’t have thought it as an eye itching remedy but it can help in easing the itching. Coriander possesses antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to eliminate allergens from the eyes. It also aids dryness. In a pan, pour half a cup of water and add one tablespoon coriander seeds to it. Bring the water to a boil and let it cool down. Wash your eyes with this coriander water. Alternatively, you can also pour some drops directly into the eyes with the help of a dropper.
If the irritation in the eye persists, do not delay in visiting an eye specialist as it could be something serious too. Home remedies can help in getting immediate relief but prolong irritation should not be ignored.
