Suffering From Measles: Home Remedies That Can Help

Measles is a serious viral infection, and while some home remedies can help alleviate symptoms, it's crucial to seek professional medical advice and adhere to prescribed treatments. Traditional Indian remedies may offer comfort during the recovery process, but they should not replace the guidance of a healthcare professional.  Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, PHC, Darbhanga, Bihar suggested some Indian home remedies that may provide relief:

Tulsi (Holy Basil) Tea

“Tulsi is known for its antiviral and immune-boosting properties. Make tea by boiling tulsi leaves in water. Sip on this warm tea to help soothe cough and respiratory symptoms,” sadi Dr Chaudhary.

You Can Apply Mint Paste

“Mint paste can be applied to rashes in the form of a paste. Its cooling property soothes the blisters and rashes. Sandalwood paste can also be applied to rashes as it has antiviral properties which prevent the infection from spreading. Saffron also accomplishes the same task,” said  Mohamad Yusuf N Shaikh, Founder Kudrati Ayurveda.

Turmeric Milk (Haldi Doodh)

Turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties. Mix a pinch of turmeric powder in warm milk and drink it before bedtime. This may help with inflammation and provide relief.

Neem Water Gargle

Gargling with neem-infused water can help soothe a sore throat and reduce oral discomfort. Boil neem leaves in water, let it cool, and use it as a gargle.

Honey and Ginger

A mixture of honey and ginger can provide relief for a sore throat and cough. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, while honey can soothe irritation.

Jaggery Water (Gur Ka Pani)

Jaggery is believed to have immune-boosting properties. Dissolve a small piece of jaggery in warm water and drink it. This may provide relief from a persistent cough.

Basil (Tulsi) and Honey Paste

Make a paste by crushing tulsi leaves and mixing them with honey. Consuming this paste may help ease respiratory symptoms and boost the immune system.

Avoid Eating Spicy Food

“Avoid eating foods that are hot, greasy, fatty, or difficult to digest. Foods that may cause constipation should be avoided at all times. Light foods such as rice and barley seasoned with pepper should be used,” said the ayurveda expert.

Amla

Amla is rich in vitamin C, which supports the immune system. Consuming fresh amla or amla juice may help in recovery.

Ajwain (Carom Seeds) Steam Inhalation

Inhaling steam infused with ajwain (carom seeds) can provide relief for congestion and ease respiratory discomfort.
