5 Health Issues Causing Stabbing Pain in Females

1. Hip Condition

In certain cases the person may feel pain in the left groin because of some particular hip conditions. These problems cause severe pain in the groin that feels like some sharp object has been inserted in that area. Here are 3 hip conditions that are usually responsible for causing this type of pain

  • Hip bursitis- in this, a fluid filled sac inside or outside of the hip gets inflamed. Hip bursitis are common in women than men.
  • Impingement- This is a condition in which there is structural problem in the bone of ligament of the hip joint that is caused because of friction between ball and socket joint.
  • Labral tear- stabbing pain also occurs in case of tissue tear around the hip socket

In most cases the pain occurs at a particular position or during doing certain type of movement. These conditions can be treated by taking rest, physical therapy, surgery and steroid injections.

2. Kidney Stones

Kidney stones can cause evident pain in the groin area. Most of the kidney problems affect the left groin region and cause stabbing pain. Kidney stones can be very painful and can be recurring condition. This can also come along with problems such as-

Treatment for Kidney stones

Kidney stones have 2 types of major treatment options. One is the natural methods in which having more fluids, water and some supplements are given to bring out small stones. If that does not work, the doctor gives shock wave therapy to break the stones into smaller pieces for them to come out.

3. Hernia

Stabbing pain in the left groin region can also be because of hernia. Hernia can be inguinal or femoral. Both these conditions can be very critical and it is important to treat these conditions as soon as possible for proper healing.

Inguinal hernia occurs when the some constituents of abdomen go into a weakened area in one passage on either side of the groin. This is called inguinal canals in which the pain is caused. Other type of hernia is femoral that occurs deeper in the groin, and hence it is even more painful. Femoral hernia can cause stabbing pain in the region and is more likely to develop in females only.

Surgery is the only available method to treat hernia. If there is sudden pain in the left groin, then it means hernia is cutting off your blood supply from the intestines. This can be dangerous and hence immediate medical attention is needed.

4. Groin Strain

A simple strain or pull in the left groin can cause stabbing pain in the affected left region. It can be because of multiple reasons. In most cases the cause of it is either injury or overexertion of muscles near that area. It affects inner thigh muscles as well. Groin strains are quite commonly occurring problem in women and it does not require some serious medical help. Some symptoms of groin injury are

  • Sharp, stabbing pain
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Delayed pain after injury

Treatment- In case of mild injury or pain, the person is able to treat it through rest and cold compress. Pain in the left groin region should mostly reduce in 24-48 hours in case of mild strain. If the groin strain is severe, then you may require some basic medical help and physiotherapy.
