Green tea contains antioxidants other than vitamin C, polyphenols, which strengthens the immune system by destroying the body's free radicals. Along with this, it also reduces the level of cholesterol. Also, green tea helps to remove the excess fat stored in the body. Green tea prevents cancer cells from growing. Green tea is very beneficial for oral cancer. Regular use of it reduces the risk of cancer of the digestive tract and bladder.
However, in a recent study, researchers found a link between green tea and antibiotic resistance. It was found that the antioxidants present in green tea can help eliminate the bacteria, which causes antibiotic resistance. Published in the Journal of Medical Microbiology, researchers found that the epigallocatechin can store aztreonam antibiotic, which is commonly used to treat bacterial infections. Most common respiratory tract infection is P. aeruginosa, which has become resistant to several antibiotics over the years. As of now, experts state that a combination of medicines is used to eliminate P. aeruginosa. In vitro tests were held to analyse how the infection reacted with the bacterial pathogen in combination and individually.

It was accessed that the combination of aztreonam and EGCG had more effects in reducing P. aeruginosa. Professor Roberto La Ragione, Head of the Department of Pathology and Infectious Diseases in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey, said, "WHO, in its reports, has listed Pseudomonas aeruginosa critical for human health."
"Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern, affecting the successful medical treatments in several cases. The only way as of now can be a combination of EGCG and licenced antibiotics for effective treatment," said lead author Dr Jonathan Betts, Senior Research Fellow in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey.

Green Tea Benefits
Drinking green tea increases the level of metabolism, which manages cholesterol levels in the body. Green tea is also very beneficial for oral health. It contains anti-oxidation polyphenol, which eliminates those elements in the mouth that are responsible for respiratory problems. This drink also controls the amount of glucose in the body and also helps reduce the harmful effects of insulin drug. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, green tea not only reduces Type 1 diabetes but also reduces its impact on the body.
