As per a new controversial study people who drink one or two glasses of alcohol per day are less likely to suffer a common type of stroke known as ischemic stroke.
An ischemic stroke is caused by a blocked brain artery and account for about 88% of all strokes. This study covered the volunteers from Asia, US and Europe. It was found that the women who drink 1-2 glass of alcohol daily were at 9% lower risk to encounter ischemic stroke than non drinking women. For men the risk was 6% less.
Previous research has found an association between alcohol consumption and lower levels of fibrinogen. This protein helps the formation of blood clots thus increasing the chances of stroke. With a moderate drinking the amount of fibrinogen released was less, thus ensuring the proper supply of blood.
Alcohol consumption in moderation has been linked with increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, improved insulin sensitivity, and decreased levels of fibrinogen and inflammatory markers.
This study suggests the moderate use of drinks with less alcohol percentage.
