It is important for both the partners to understand that premature ejaculation is a multi factorial condition and come to terms with the fact that it exists as it requires cooperation, support, and patience from the spouse or partner. The person suffering from PE has to realise that it is a common problem and not treat it as a taboo. Below are a few activities that can help individuals to manage PE.

  • Ruling Out Stress: A doctor would also ask you whether the problem was ever existent or began after a certain time in your sex life. It is to determine whether or not the possible cause is stress or anxiety as it is one of the most common factors when it comes to PE.
  • 'Stop-Start' Or 'Squeeze' Techniques: It is a technique that teaches to control ejaculation. You bring yourself on the verge of climate and then hold the tip of your penis until the sensation subsides.
  • Kegels: The muscles that control the flow of urine are called pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles also support organs like the bladder, bowel and the penis. Kegels are exercises that strengthen these pelvic floor muscles.
  • Couple’s Exercises: The couple can also be taught relaxation techniques together. They can gradually guide to attempt sexual activity, starting with the lateral position, followed by the woman-on-top position, and eventually moving to the conventional position. This process involves systematic desensitisation to reduce hypersensitivity to female genital touch.
  • Couple’s Therapy: Marital counselling is also an important component of overall therapy, helping to address emotional dynamics and improve communication between partners.
  • Medicine: There are also certain medicines which can help delay ejaculation by a process called priapism.

Causes of Premature Ejaculation

Anxiety: Being anxious or nervous is the most common factor behind premature ejaculation. You could be nervous because you are with a new partner, You could be worried if your partner would judge your masculinity, or you may be a nervous individual in general when it comes to intimacy. All of these dictate how long you can last during sex.

Stress: Whether it is a busy week at work or you are struggling financially. Anything that adds to your stress contributes to premature ejaculation.

Erectile Dysfunction: Those who suffer from erectile dysfunction are often focussed on maintaining erection during intercourse, which could also lead to PE.

Sensitive Penis: Some people have a hyper sensitive penis and hence ejaculate early due to higher stimulation.

What Are The Parameters of Premature Ejaculation?

If you ejaculate within one minute of your intercourse, health care professionals describe the ejaculation as premature. The exact timing of premature ejaculation may vary within individuals and cultures, but a common marker is orgasming long before your partner. There are tangible ‘symptoms’ as such, the only symptom really is the condition itself: ejaculating prematurely.

Conclusion

While there is no permanent cure for premature ejaculation as such, the condition may considerably vary from one person to another. It is important to share with your partner and seek medical help if needed.
