However, according to Dr Ajay Agarwal, "There are no long term side effects of dengue. A patient with dengue recovers fully. Very few patients of dengue who get encephalitis, they may have a neurological sequelae littoral. Otherwise, it is very rare and after dengue, it is full recovery." He added saying, "Joint pains only exist after chikungunya, but is very rare for joint pains to persist as a post dengue effect."

What are the other effects that may rest in a dengue patient?

It is not like the disease does not have effects at all. Dengue can make your body weak and cause acidity, muscle and joint pains too. You might not feel like getting up and working. It takes about 10-15 days to recover from this disease. Talking about other effects that dengue may have, Dr Ajay said, "Initially, your immunity gets weak for a few months so you tend to catch recurrent infections. And once you catch dengue, the second time that it happens again can be more serious. There are simple complications in dengue-like viral fever, increase in liver enzymes, dengue shock syndrome, low platelets count, low blood pressure, fits, etc."

Are there any medications for the side effects of dengue?

You don't need to take any specific medicines to treat dengue. However, can take pain relievers, if prescribed by the doctor. The best way to recover from dengue is to increase the intake of fluids like water, papaya juice, coconut water, etc. "There are no medications for dengue. It is a viral disease that is self-limiting and gets healed on its own. The patient is given symptomatic treatment only," Dr Ajay said.
