Strict guidelines and restrictions might get reimposed in New Delhi as Covid-19 positivity rate in the city has now reached 0.55 per cent. The high positivity rate and surge in Omicron cases can be a trigger for 'Yellow alert' under the national capital’s Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Delhi recorded 331 fresh Covid-19 cases 1 death in the last 24 hours, as per the latest state health department's news. If the positivity rate of Coronavirus cases is reported at more than 0.5 per cent for two consecutive days in Delhi, then the ‘yellow alert’ will be imposed. The 'yellow' or grade one alert might also kick in if fresh Covid cases increase to 1,500 or oxygenated bed occupancy reaches 500.
Night curfew from 11pm to 5am, has been imposed in many states in the country, including Delhi. All the markets, restaurants, pubs and shops marketing for non-essential things will be shut down during the night curfew. What is GRAP?
GRAP was passed by the Delhi government in July 2021 to manage a possible third wave of Coronavirus pandemic. There are a total of 4 levels of alerts under GRAP, and restrictions will be imposed as per the same. According to a few parameters, four-color alerts might be imposed in Delhi. These colors are yellow, amber, orange, and red:

1. Yellow alert
If the case positivity rate is observed at more than 0.5 per cent for two consecutive days in the state, then the ‘yellow alert’ will be imposed. The yellow alert will also kick in if fresh cases count spikes to 1,500 or oxygenated bed occupancy reaches 500. The restrictions in yellow allert would be as follows:
- Night curfew will be imposed from 10 pm to 5 am. But, weekend curfew will not be issued
- Shops and malls with non-essential goods or services will be open from 10 am to 8 pm on an odd even rule basis
- Constructions, industries will stay open
- Restaurants will be at 50 percent
- capacity from 8 am to 10 pm
- Bars will stay open at 50 percent capacity from 12 pm to 10 pm
- Theatres and multiplexes will stay closed
- Banquet halls will be closed. However, hotels will remain open
- Salons and beauty parlors to stay open. But gyms, spas, yoga institutes and entertainment parks will be closed
- Outdoor yoga can be allowed
- Delhi Metro will operate at 50 percent capacity
- Only two passengers can travel in autos, e-rickshaws, taxis, and cycle rickshaws
- Stadiums and swimming pools will remain closed
- Public parks will stay open
- Only 20 people can attend weddings and funeral
- Any entertainment-related activities will not be allowed
- Religious places can stay open but entry of people will be restricted
- Schools, colleges, educational institutions, and tuition institutes will remain closed
- Private offices can operate with 50 percent capacity from 9 am to 5 pm
2. Amber alert
The number of restrictions under the ‘amber’ alert are mostly the same like under 'yellow' alert except that malls and shops of non-essential thinhs and services will be open from 10 am to 6 pm. Moreover, under ‘amber’ alert, the Delhi Metro will operate at 33 percent capacity. Dining in restaurants will not be allowed, but take away service can be opted.
3. Orange alert
'Orange' alert under GARP will be imposed if the covid case positivity rate crosses 2 percent or fresh cases of Coronavirus reach 9,000 or oxygenated bed occupancy goes upto 1,000.
- Construction and industrial activities will be restricted except those with essential commodities and defence production
- Malls and weekly markets will remain closed
- Standalone non-essential shops can operate from 10 am to 6 pm
4. Red alert
The red alert will be issued if the positivity rate gets recorded more than 5 percent for two consecutive days or there are 16,000 cases in a week or 3,000 oxygen beds are occupied for a week. More strict restrictions might be imposed on public transport modes if a red alert is imposed.
- Most of the economic activities will not be allowed under 'red' alert
- Construction activities and industries of essential commodities, national security and defence-related productions will be allowed
- Malls and weekly markets will remain closed and non-essential shops can open
