Myth: Aerobic classes are the best form of cardiovascular exercise and the most effective ones for losing excess weight
Fact: Unfortunately, a group workout routine is generally inferior to a personally designed workout routine for an individual. The format of an aerobic class is general and does not take into account an individual’s personal target heart rate and fitness goal. Also, there is a greater risk of injury if a person while performing some moves with bad form and posture skips the eye of the instructor amongst so many participants. Aerobics require a certain level of skill to perform the choreographed moves which every person does not have. Thus most of the participants are not able to workout up to their maximum potential. Hence they do not get the desired results.
On the other hand, aerobics classes have some advantages for men and women who enjoy exercising in groups because they feel motivated to exercise watching their fellow participants performing. This helps to promote adherence to an exercise regime amongst such group of men and women. Exceptions are also there as some individuals do attain their fitness goals just with aerobics.
Myth: Aerobics is only for women
Fact: Aerobics is for both, men and women. Aerobics classes today have gone through a lot of transformations to attract the male gender. There are so many dance aerobic classes which interest men also. They have an element of fun along with strenuous exercise. Men who find running, walking or doing cardio on any of the gym equipments boring, can always enroll for an aerobic class and get benefits related to cardio-respiratory fitness as well as fat loss. There are several male aerobics instructors all over the world which in itself busts this myth.
