The physical activity instructor in our school knew how to punish boys the best. Whenever they were caught breaking some rules or whiling away their time or did not respond with “sir”, it was burpee time for them. What they did not realise then, was that “getting their feet moving” was actually a calorie-torching, strength-building, full body exercise.

benefits of burpee exerciseAthletes, fighters, cross-fighters and soldiers have been doing burpee exercises as a staple. This does not mean that this exercise is meant for a specified group of people. Anyone can do it.

Burpee works out your whole body including the core muscles and increases your cardio endurance. It is a combination of squat, push-up, and vertical jump. Of course, it is hard to do which is why it is jailors’ favourite exercise option for prisoners.

Benefits of Burpee Exercise

Burpee is a single ultimate full body exercise that tests both your strength and aerobic capacities.

Strength

Each repetition of burpee works your chest, arms, front deltoids, thighs and abs. A complete set of burpees makes your legs thump like they are pumping battery.

Fat Burning

Burpee uses your full body and is an intense workout which is why it is the best exercise to torch the fat. Certain trainers claim that high intensity drill like burpees, burn 50% more fat than other conventional workout options.

They have been proved to speed up the metabolism which helps in burning body fat all day long. Stop doing other strength training exercises and ditch the elliptical machine to shed the spare tire. Get to burpees now!

Body Conditioning

Sculpting washboard abs and bowling ball biceps that need you to sweat out many hours in the gym, do little when it comes to split a giant wood pile or even save your own life. Burpees effectively develop endurance in your body resulting into vigour to tackle difficult challenges. One also gets the manly vim that a conditioned body offers.

Freedom and Portability

One does not need any fancy gym memberships or classes or work machines to perform burpees. All one needs is your body, a floor and a strong will. Do them on the road, hotel room, your house or park or your office. Okay, office is a bit too exaggerated.

How to Perform a Burpee

Performing a burpee exercise is horribly simple but the difficult part is to keep repeating it. It truely tests and trains your stamina.

  • Begin in a squat position with your hands on the floor in front of you.
  • Kick your feet back, while simultaneously lowering yourself into a pushup
  • Immediately return your feet to the squat position, while simultaneously pushing up with your arms.
  • Leap up as high as possible from the squat position.

Burpees are also known as 'Up-downs". They help you lose weight, tone your muscles provide a full cardio workout without being inexpensive. Now you know burpee in the way to go.
