If we talk about heart diseases, then they are the first cause of global deaths. According to the data and analytics by the WHO, thirty-one percent (31%) of deaths (globally (are estimated at around 17.5 million). However, people also died from cardiovascular diseases in the year 2012. Several, global leaders have also realized the urgency of prioritizing the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). In the wake of soaring heart disease numbers, every year, World Heart Day is celebrated around the world on September 29. In the year 2015, World Heart Day's theme was to create healthy heart environments. And one must encourage everyone to make healthy heart choices. It's high time that we come together to make our planet heart-healthy.

The theme for World Heart Day 2015 is creating healthy heart environments. The focus is to encourage healthy heart choices for everyone around us and make the earth a heart-healthy planet. Here’s what you can implement for a heart-friendly environment.

Say no to smoking

It would prevent heart diseases from affecting you, your children and all those around you.

Eat and promote healthy eating behavior

A fruit for breakfast, cooking meals at home and incorporating veggies in your diet is only a step towards a happy heart. Make sure you encourage others around you to follow suit.

Less TV time and more active time

Abide by the rule of not sitting before the TV for more than 2 hours. Organize outdoor activities with your family, friends, and colleagues. It could be anything, even as simple as playing in the garden. 

Regular health checks

Encourage everyone around you to visit a healthcare provider and get blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood glucose level and BMI checked on a regular basis. The most unfortunate fact about CVDs is that most of the heart-related medical conditions are preventable. Not having a healthy diet and lack of regular physical activity makes a big difference. It is time we all come together and make our planet heart-healthy!
