Cosmetic products are flooding the market since the last decade. There are now several companies with millions of products assuring glowing and rejuvenating skin. Not only this they assure you to have no side effects.
Most of these products use a harsh chemical which is not good for your skin and health. How will you know which chemical is harmful in these beauty products?
Before choosing a beauty product do check the list of ingredients written at the back of a product. Given below are the toxic ingredients which you should avoid:
Triclosan: It is an antimicrobial chemical known for endocrine disruption targeting thyroid, reproductive hormones and irritates the skin. Research shows that triclosan makes bacteria antibiotic-resistant. Triclosan can be seen in a variety of tubes of toothpaste, antibacterial soaps, and deodorants.

Parabens : This ingredient is very common in beauty products. Widely used as preservatives that prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, and yeast in beauty products, it has estrogen-mimicking properties that are linked with increased risk of breast cancer. This chemical is absorbed easily by the skin and is seen biopsy samples from breast tumors. Makeup, body washes, deodorants, shampoos, and facial cleansers contain paraben these days.
A big NO to paraben containing products.
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) : Found mostly in shampoo, body wash/cleanser, mascara and acne treatment products, this chemical can irritate lungs, skin, and eye. SLS is known for its property to interact and combine with other chemicals to form nitrosamines, a carcinogen. This can lead issues like kidney and respiratory damage.
Formaldehyde : Helping cosmetics products in preventing bacteria growth, is the reason for your skin irritation and has harmful effects on the immune system. It is declared as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Carcinogens (IARC). It can trigger cancers. Nail polish, body washes, conditioners, shampoos, cleansers, eye shadows, etc generally contain this chemical.
Synthetic Colours : Synthetic colors found in cosmetic products are derived from petroleum or coal tar sources. They are known to be as human carcinogens, skin irritant, and are supposed to cause ADHD in children.
Strong Fragrance : The solid fragrance is found in perfume, cologne, conditioner, shampoo, body wash and moisturizers which is doing great harm to humans. This causes allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system.
Propylene glycol : Known for its skin-conditioning properties, it is classified as skin irritant and penetrator. It can cause dermatitis and hives in humans. It is mostly found in moisturizers, sunscreen, makeup products, conditioners, shampoo and hair sprays.
Sunscreen Chemical : Considered as a protector of skin from the sun, it is doing much damage-causing cellular damage and cancer. Common names by which it can be seen in the ingredient list are benzophenone, PABA, avobenzone, homosalate, and methoxycinnamate.
So, stay away from these chemicals in your beauty products. By just a handful of glow in the skin, they can damage you in a big way. Stay safe and keep a distance from chemical-laden cosmetics.
