You can easily use hydrogen peroxide to get rid of nasty blackheads that are plaguing your natural beauty. Cleanse and dry your face. Moisten a cotton ball with it and apply to problem areas. No need to rinse.
If you thought those over-staying friends from teenage can be removed, forgiven and forgotten, you’re wrong. Those irksome blackheads are tough brutes, excessively common and need to be dissolved and not just removed to get a clear skin.
Getting rid of blackheads for good requires the right products, a regular skin-care regimen and sometimes, the most effective tricks. Hydrogen peroxide or H2O2 is an antiseptic with the potential to prevent future breakouts.
But, before starting with the treatment, we should understand what blackheads really are.
Know the enemy
A blackhead is a pore that is blocked with a mixture of dead skin cells, oil and Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) - a bacteria that flourishes on the protein and oil present in your pores and causes breakouts. A blackhead is an open comedo on the skin’s surface that turns black by getting oxidised as a result of exposure to air. Blackheads are really tempting to mess with but, there are better ways to get rid of them. Hydrogen peroxide is one of them.
Steps to dissolve blackheads with hydrogen peroxide
All you need to do is:
- Use a mild cleanser to wash your face to remove any excess oil, bacteria and other toxins. Pat dry.
- Next, exfoliate the areas of your skin that are affected by blackheads. You can use a homemade face scrub made with ground sugar and green tea leaves. It will gently remove the oxidized blackhead surfaces. Rinse thoroughly.
- Moisten a cotton ball with 3% hydrogen peroxide and gently dab it on your blackheads. Avoid eyebrows and hairline as the cleaning agent has bleaching properties.
- While your skin is still damp, massage it using jojoba, avocado or olive oil massage. Because hydrogen peroxide causes skin to dry, oil massage will help in retaining moisture and thus protect your skin.
If your blackheads have left scars, hydrogen peroxide can again be used to lighten them. All you need to do is exfoliate, and then using a cotton ball, rub the affected areas with a solution of equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. Leave it on overnight and wash off in the morning. Your skin will be clearer and brighter with time.
