Prem Sagar, the son of the great filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, who produced the most popular TV series Ramayan, died in the morning of August 31, 2025. He was 84 years old. Prem was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai but he was discharged home on doctor advice just before his death without any complication. Prem Sagar was not only the son of Ramanand Sagar, but he was a well-known producer and cinematographer himself. He also had close links with the Sagar Arts banner and produced a number of mythological and fantasy television series, such as the legendary Ramayan which premiered in 1987. He was a well-trained film and television still photographer and film and television director of photography, having attended the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune.
Ramayan actors such as Arun Govil (Lord Ram), Sunil Lahiri (Laxman), and others took to social media, shedding tears about their loss, as he had helped them introduce the teachings of Lord Ram to people over television.
