Considering the rising cases of heart attacks across all age groups, it has become imperative for us to take heart health seriously and practise things that strengthen our heart. While running errands, we often leave our health behind which can cause severe consequences later in life. One of the easiest ways to improve lifestyle and get our body working fine is to walk. Indulging in some kind of physical activity is suggested by doctors to secure heart health. To spread awareness, Artemis Hospital, Gurugram hosted Walkathon 2024: Walk For Heart on 22nd September 2024 with Onlymyhealth as media partner for the event. For the uninitiated, World Heart Day is observed every year on 29th September to spread awareness about heart health.
Zumba For The Fun
The event began with a fun zumba session at the heritage city, Gurugram. Not only youngsters but senior citizens also showed full participation in learning and doing zumba which made this event fun-filled and enlightening. Present at the event, Zumba expert at Modern School, Delhi shared the benefits of doing zumba by saying, "Zumba plays an important role in releasing stress which is the main cause of most health problems including heart diseases. This might be a dance form but it is more of a fun exercise that engages all the parts of the body for a great workout. The biggest advantage of doing zumba is that this exercise is fun and you end up enjoying while exercising."

She also listed out a few things to keep in mind while doing zumba including:
- Do not do zumba if you have any injury. Always consult a specialist before starting out.
- You can do zumba for good 45 minutes, four to five days a week.
- Avoid doing any step that makes you feel discomforting. You can always consult an expert to share the right steps as per your health condition.
The zumba session received many positive feedbacks from attendees. Senior citizens enjoyed the exercise and vowed to continue doing zumba to secure their heart health.
Walkathon with Experts
Post the warmup zumba session, a walkathon was conducted in two categories- 1km and 2km which saw active participation of people of all age groups. During the event, Dr Sushant Srivastava, Chairperson of the Heart and Lung Transplant Department of Artemis Hospital, Gurugram shared ways to keep your heart healthy. He quoted saying, "Everyone must do some kind of physical activity daily, be it walk, running or zumba. Additionally, since diet plays a major role in healthy living, watch out what is on your plate. He also emphasised on eliminating stress from your life as it is the most common risk factor for heart diseases."
