Omicron has taken a toll on everyone’s life around the world. The rate of transmission has significantly increased over time and has given serious threatening symptoms to the world. In the midst of Omicron storm which has trapped some countries adversely, US is among one of them. First Omicron death of United States has occurred to a person who was unvaccinated in Texas. Also the surge of this new variant of concern has increased from 3% to 73% in just over a week. This has caused serious concerns in the country and has raised alert in the region. Omicron is seeing as the third wave of corona virus and it rightly affecting people in similar way.

First Omicron Death in US

A 50-60 years old man became the victim of Omicron COVID-19 in Texas on Monday. This came into highlight after the COVID surge of omicron variant increased to 73% of total COVID-19 cases in the United States. Centre of Disease Control and Prevention has not yet given many details about that person. But according to BBC, the person did not take single dose of vaccination and hence fell as a victim to the deadly virus. Earlier this month, the first death from this omicron variant took place in Britain which makes him the second person to have died of Omicron COVID-19.

Omicron COVID-19 Surge in US

In the latest report given by health department of US, the cases of Omicron have accounted for massive 73% of total cases that were reported. The surge has been very significant and dangerous looking from previous week. In the last week, there were only 3% of omicron cases among total number of cases which has now increased to 73%.

The delta variant which was dominant until now has been receded to roughly 27% of sequenced cases. This has put the health authorities in concern and sizable increase of prevalence of rapid spread could cause fatalities as well. Omicron variant could re-infect people at a vital transmission rate and looking at graph it follows, it could account for 92% of total cases of COVID-19 in US.

Even though Omicron is not resulting too many fatalities, constant re-infection could be harmful to health of people and can potentially damage immune system of the person. The booster dose of vaccination has started and is in process. Double masking is advised, social distancing and proper sanitization has been put in place.
