Lose Weight


Desire to become mother acts as a strong motivator and can help you in your zest to lose weight. Even a small weight loss can significantly increase your chances of getting pregnant. Besides losing weight, it is essential to be healthy- take nutritious food, exercise and stay active.
A good exercise plan can help you to get rid of the excess weight and achieve weight that is ideal and healthy to get pregnant.  

 

Preconception Check-Up


Another important preconception step is to access you health. Have a complete body preconception check-up. For instance, get checked for blood pressure, diabetes and the other health issues that can affect fertility or pregnancy.

 

Body Mass Index (BMI)

 
BMI of women must be taken into consideration during pre-conception planning. Women who have BMI of 30 or more are at greater risk of developing health ailments such as gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension.

 

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POCS)


Overweight women with POCS (imbalance in sex hormones) often face difficulty in getting pregnant. Women suffering from POCS do not ovulate without intervention. Even 5% lose of body weight can help to balance hormones and increase fertility. In addition to losing weight, birth control pills and medications that increase body’s sensitivity to insulin are also effective in treatment of POCS.

 

Monitor your Menstrual Cycle


If you are overweight and trying to get pregnant then keep track of your menstrual cycle. According to the American Pregnancy Association, if your age is below thirty and have regular periods then try to conceive on your own. For this you will need to closely monitor you menstrual cycle and find out when you ovulate. You can either use ovulation prediction kit or guess it by changes in your basal body temperature and mucus. Time you sexual intercourse during your ovulation as it is the most fertile period of your cycle. Consult fertility expert if you have tried for six months and are not able to conceive.
