Preventing Heart Attack has Never been So Easy

A lot of theories have surfaced during our daily leisure reading sessions that a heart attack can be prevented in several ways from taking an aspirin a day to closely watching the food intake and other such technical measures.

All you have to do is continue doing what you are already doing with a few precautions and quit the bad habits. Here are a few medication-free ways in which heart attack can be prevented.

Quit Smoking or Using Tobacco

Smoking or using products made of tobacco is the most significant risk factor for the development of heart diseases. Chemicals that are present in tobacco damage the heart as well as blood vessels, triggering the arteries to narrow. This narrowing of arteries is referred to as atherosclerosis, which ultimately leads to heart attack in the patient. As far as preventing heart attack is concerned, even a slight amount of smoking is injurious. This does not mean that smokeless tobacco, low-nicotine and low-tar cigarettes are not risky. They are as risky as exposure of secondhand smoke.

Exercise for 30 Minutes

As long as you exercise for 30 minutes on most days of the week, you are safe from heart attack. Getting regular and every day exercise has been found to reduce the risk of fatal heart related complications like heart attack. Not only do you end up preventing heart diseases, but also hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and even stress. Exercising does not mean that you will have to do join a gym, but just walking around in the house or taking your pet for a walk will prove to be sufficient.

Savour a Diet that is Heart Healthy

Understanding the importance of diet in preventing several fatal diseases has drawn the attention of experts to come up with a special diet called a Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet. This diet is dense with vegetables, fruits, low-fat dairy products and whole grains i.e. to say all the heart-healthy foods. Low-fat sources of protein, beans and certain fish can also help one reduce his/her risk for heart attack.

Keep the Weight Balanced

When you grow up to become an adult, the weight that is gained throughout the years becomes fat instead of muscle. This excess fat can lead to several conditions that heighten one’s chances of having a heart attack. The most commonly used method to check weight is by measuring and managing the BMI. If your BMI number is above 25, you run a high risk for high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease.

In some people the prospect of a heart attack comes on suddenly. So, it is essential to go through heart screenings from time to time to be perfectly safe.
