Anyone who knows me well is aware of the fact that I love cooking dishes which are simple to make and don’t require too much effort. One ingredient I surely love to play around with is oats. Whether it is the simple overnight oats or using oats in baking or making some granola bars or amazing burgers out of them, oats is one of my favourite ingredients.
I know of many households where now oats porridge is a regular breakfast or mid-morning meal. One of my friend’s grandmother regularly has oats porridge (Oats cooked in milk and water, with a sprinkling of sugar or jaggery) for breakfast. She says that ever since she has discovered oats (which was pretty late in life!) she loves to eat this porridge every day. It keeps her full and seems to give her an extra boost of energy in the mornings.
There are many reasons why we should be including oats in our diet. Here are some reasons to include oats in your diet. No matter how you have it, in porridge form, as a powder camouflaged in baking or just as upma, its sure is a fibre rich cereal to include in your diet.

Just one bowl of oats, can give you a satisfied feeling for a longer time. In simple language, it means that oats help reduce the hunger pangs in the body, which means you will consume lesser calories and this will help you with weight loss. So if you are trying to restrict your calories, here is an amazing cereal which will help with weight management.

It is amazing how incorporating a bit of oats in our daily diet in any form can actually help fight bad cholesterol. While I was reading about the benefits of oats, I came across this interesting article in that mentions that oats are high in soluble fibres which help lower the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the body. So, if you are looking at a great option to keep the cholesterol at bay, oats is the cereal to have!

Oats are known to be rich in soluble fibre, which acts as a catalyst to manage blood pressure. Oats are also low in sodium, which helps to regulate the high blood pressure, that’s how a simple cereal in our daily diet can help in so many ways!

The other day, while I was reading something online, I came across an article which mentioned that India is the diabetes capital of the world. Honestly, I must admit, I wasn’t very surprised because I know most Indians have a diet rich in calories, sugar, oil and hence suffer from diabetes. Oats contain a range of molecules that act as antioxidants; this includes avenanthramides, which are polyphenols. Avenanthramides may play a role in keeping blood pressure low by increasing nitric oxide production.
5. Oats can really help relieve constipation
Oat bran is supposed to have amazing digestion properties and helps reduce constipation. Whole grains are often recommended for their beneficial effects on the gastrointestinal tract.
It can surely help to improve your digestive system and that is one amazing reason to have it every day.

Apart from the health benefits of oats, if there is one reason why you should incorporate oats in your daily diet, it is the ease with which you can cook them. We can make porridge out of them, or just soak them overnight and make some amazing breakfast!
