Tryptophan is a sleep inducing substance. You can have the following food items that contain tryptophan to sleep well at night –

  • Dairy products like milk, cottage cheese and cheese.
  • Soy products like tofu, soybean nuts and soy milk.
  • Poultry
  • Whole grains
  • Beans
  • Seafood
  • Lentils
  • Meats
  • Rice
  • Hazelnuts, Peanuts
  • Eggs
  • Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds

So, eating carbohydrates with foods that contain tryptophan-containing foods makes available the amino acid to our brain, therefore, inducing sleep.
