Teething can be a real painful phase for both mother and baby. It usually starts between four to six months of age to 12 months when the first set of pearly whites erupt on the bottom gum line. The upper front the usually erupts 1 to 2 months after the lower front teeth. Babies usually feel irritating discomfort when they are toothing, but some babies become fussier than others due to soreness and swelling in gums. Some babies drool during teething which can lead to rashes on the chin, face and chest.

Besides, this is the time when your child might want to bite or chew on a hard or soft surface to relieve the pressure in his gums. Thus, it is the perfect time to give your baby a teether now. But, you got to be careful while choosing a teether for your little one.

Why you should choose natural teether over plastic or rubber?

It is recommended to choose a wooden teether which is hard and devoid of chemicals over plastic teethers available in the market. The latter are made of low-grade plastic and have paints on them that can come out once your child starts chewing on them.

Consumption of such chemicals may lead to stomach infection or diarrhoea. Therefore, opting for a wooden teether over a plastic one is good choice. Besides, they are hard enough that allows your baby to chew on them to soothe the painful gums. However, if you don’t want to use wooden teether, you can use frozen sticks as a natural alternative to teether.
