Grasim Industries, a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group in Binaga, Karwar is making the headlines because of the recent gas leak incident. A chemical leak in the plant on Saturday has left nineteen people hospitalised. The incident was caused by a chlorine gas leak from the firm’s SCL plant and resulted in symptoms like difficulty breathing, coughing, and throat irritation in the affected. While the incident has alarmed both the workers and administration, it is being reported that all workers are currently stable and are on the road to recovery. 

Such incidents raise significant concerns when it comes to the safety protocols and adverse health risks associated with such gas leaks. It underscores the importance of rapid and coordinated response to such emergencies and implementing measures needed to prevent such incidents in the future.

Overview Of The Incident 

As per the official, 19 workers were affected, out of which 14 were given treatment at the Karwar District Government Hospital, while five received medical attention at the company's clinic. Among the affected, 11 workers were from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and the rest were local residents. According to the reports, all of them are in stable condition.

Until further notice, the operations across the plant are halted and workers are instructed to vacate the premises. District Health Officer Dr Ramesh Rao talked to the media and informed them that he visited the factory immediately after the incident was reported. He also confirmed that none of the workers faced any kind of severe health consequences.
