Foods you should avoid if you’re trying to lose weight

People trying to lose weight often struggle to achieve their desired goal. While there can be several reasons for failing to lose weight, from busy schedules to lack of physical activities, there is one common reason for most people. It's the food they eat. Several foods may appear harmful but they ruin even a well-planned weight loss program.

You will be disappointed to know that some of the most liked, delicious foods are actually bad in terms of fat and calories. In addition, you find it next to impossible to avoid these yummy treats. But it’s not your fault, foods which are branded healthy or low fat and low sugar may contain high amounts of calories in the form of added sugars.  Since you have not been paying much attention, chances are high that you may be eating unhealthy foods while hoping for positive outcomes. Here is a list of foods you should avoid if you are trying to lose weight.

Snacks rich in carbs

Eating a bag full of wafers, dry cereal, bread or rice cakes alone can lead to conversion of carbs to simple sugars by the body, which it sends directly to the blood stream. Your body tends to produce extra insulin in order to absorb that sugar as soon as possible. The extra insulin leaves you with low blood sugar levels which only triggers the next cycle of hunger. You end up eating more sugary foods with no nutritional value to satisfy your need for instant energy. You should know that a combination of carbs, healthy fats and protein take longer to digest.

Frozen meals

Food manufacturers often use sodium in frozen meals so that these foods can last longer in the freezer. As you may know, sodium causes retention of water, which leads to bloating. Even a small portion of such foods contains high amounts of calories and it very easily tricks your brain into thinking that you need to eat more of it.

High-fiber snack bars

Fibre is essential for everyone as it keeps the digestive system healthy and makes you feel full even when you are cutting down on calories. You need to have adequate amount of fibre intake consistently throughout the day to avoid hunger pangs and improve digestive health. Make sure you choose natural fibre sources like fruits or vegetables instead of bars.

Low-fat foods

According to a recent research, people tend to eat 30 percent more when they know the food they are eating is low in fat. This isn’t alone harmful; what’s even worse is that food makers remove the fat from food and replace it with sugar to enhance its flavour.

Booze

You may say that some cocktails come with fewer calories than others, so why give up booze? But, no expert will recommend alcohol for weight loss because it is damaging to one's health. What it actually supports is overeating and impairment of judgement which often ruins your weight loss goals.
