However, apart from medications, it is better if women try to adopt natural methods to boost their fertility. And one such way of improving one’s chances of conception is having the right food. Read ahead to know certain fertility enhancing foods.

Fertility Enhancing Foods for Women

Nuts and Seeds

It is well known that nuts and seeds contain fertility enhancing properties, and so, consuming them is beneficial for women trying to conceive. Women seeking to get pregnant should take pumpkin seeds as they contain good amount of zinc that helps in ovulation. Regular consumption of a handful of almonds and sunflower seeds provides vitamin C, which strengthens the uterine lining, and this increases the chances of getting pregnant.

Whole grains

Being a good source of manganese, regular intake of whole grains enhances fertility in women. Manganese works by activating the body enzymes and inducing the production of reproductive hormones. Full of complex carbohydrates, whole grains such as brown rice and oatmeal help in boosting insulin sensitivity which is an important factor for fertility. Intake of green veggies such as, broccoli, spinach and fruits such as pineapple and banana also provide manganese.

Healthy fat

Although intake of fat is considered a threat to heart health, and excess indulgence in fat can result in obesity and diabetes,  fat is still among the important components that increases a woman’s fertility. While trying to conceive, carefully chose fat sources which are healthy and significantly low on LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol. Eat sources of omega 3 fatty acids such as walnuts and salmon.  Non-saturated and polyunsaturated fats help in increasing insulin sensitivity, which improves the chances of conception.

Calcium Sources

Regular intake of calcium is prescribed because it is important for bone development. In addition, doctors recommend appropriate consumption of calcium if seeking pregnancy because it boosts a woman’s fertility. Although milk is considered the richest source of calcium, you can opt for other calcium rich foods too such as tofu, soy products, green and leafy veggies.

Deficiency of zinc is known to trigger infertility in women. Meet your daily requirements of zinc by consuming lean and red meat, broccoli, corn, eggs, fortified bread, almonds, whole grains and yoghurt.
