Did you know continuous pain or cramps in your belly and back could be a warning sign of ovarian cancer? Abdominal pain in women is generally associated with menstruation but it may not be restricted to that only. You may feel bloated due to indigestion too and the pain may travel to your back as well. Since your back is the support system for your body, it is vulnerable to pains and strains. If abdominal pain is bearable and happens infrequently, it could be digestive but if it is persistent or continuous, you must consult a doctor to find the actual cause.

Ovarian cancer

One of the critical causes of persistent back pain and belly bloating is ovarian cancer. This can develop In different parts of the ovary with gradual growth. Besides, ovarian cysts are also a possible cause. Cysts may develop in either of the ovaries that can trigger pain in the abdomen. It is said that every woman develops at least one type of ovarian cyst in their lifetime.

This is a chronic condition where the tissue lining the uterus outgrows causing pain and discomfort. There are different symptoms of endometriosis and abdominal pain, bloating and back pain are among them. Women with this condition may experience complications while conceiving and carrying a baby.

Abdominal Bloating Back Pain In Women


Cramps and back pain are initial signs of pregnancy. If you experience vomiting, fatigue and nausea along with back pain and abdominal discomfort, you might be pregnant. The other initial signs of pregnancy include tender breasts, swelling and constipation. If you are planning a pregnancy, this could be a positive sign.

Kidney stones

It is a myth that stones can develop only in your kidneys. These can be formed anywhere in the body but are prevalent in kidneys. Acute and persistent pain around the abdomen and back could be stones. Do not ignore this and get yourself tested.

Urinary tract infection (UTI)

UTI is also a common infection in women especially pregnant women. Any part of your urinary tract may catch this infection causing UTI. This is caused due to bacterial exposure, mostly after using shared toilets. It is extremely important to disinfect public toilet seats before use.

Celiac disease

This is a digestive disorder which is caused due to gluten allergy. When you consume gluten, your body reacts to it and triggers various symptoms including abdominal pain. If you have celiac disease, you should consult a doctor as soon as you see the symptoms.


This is a chronic disorder which is related to bones and muscles. This triggers musculoskeletal pain which is accompanied by fatigue, sleep issues, mood swings and tender bones & muscles. 

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

Most but not all women go through premenstrual syndrome which is more of a phase before menstruation. It causes physical pains, emotional imbalance, behavioural changes, etc. before periods. Abdominal pain and cramping is common during menses but it can start long before as PMS.


Gallstones are similar to kidney stones but they are formed in the gallbladder. These are hard deposits that cause pain and discomfort in the lower part of the body.
