Consumption of carbonated drinks before, after and during the workout is very common. People often consume these drinks to get instant energy after the workout when they are completely drained. According to a latest study, carbonated beverages can lead to kidney damage.
The study was published in the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology. It clearly stated that drinking soda after exercise is very harmful and should be completely avoided. “The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that consuming a soft drink (i.e., high fructose, caffeinated beverage) during and following exercise in the heat elevates biomarkers of acute kidney injury (AKI) in humans,” the study mentioned.
After the complete research, the results showed that regular consumption of carbonated drinks before, during or after the workout can lead to kidney damage.

Drinking soda or other carbonated drinks will not only disturb the proper functioning of the kidneys but will also lead to high blood pressure and diabetes. Consuming at least two carbonated drinks per day leads to proteinuria, which is an excess presence of protein in the urine which leads to kidney damage.
Carbonated drinks and soda contain phosphoric acid in large quantity, which leads to kidney stones and strains in the kidneys. The presence of sodium and artificial sweeteners in such drinks also makes the condition worse.
