When music enthusiasts across the globe were expecting comeback album from Bobby Womack, then came the story of him being diagnosed with colon cancer. The shocking news of Bobby Womack’s battling colon cancer is reported by his friend, funk bassist Bootsy Collins, according to whom Bobby was hospitalized on the weekend as he was suffering from pneumonia. According to him, the 68-year-old soul singer was later diagnosed with the cancer condition.
There were series of updates by Bootsy, where he on behalf of Bobby, he thanked fans for love, support and prayers. First tweet from the bassist came on 25th March, which read, “Funkateers, send prayers & love vibes up for Bobby Womack. He is fighting pneumonia in the hospital now.” Later he added a tweet that quoted, “We pray for Bobby Womack right now, to be healed from pneumonia and any other ailment he is fighting at this time.”
The bassist posted on his facebook page to notify everyone of Bobby being diagnosed with cancer, and also said that he is not shaken. Next update of Bootsy Collins had details of the cancer condition, which read, “Docs says he is in 1st stage of colon cancer, he is very upbeat about his future, and we laughed & joked before we hung up. Thanks Funkateers, we will get him back on the one (sic)!”
The admired-figure Bobby broke into the international scene during 1960s with a family band ‘The Valentinos’, and also did gigs with ‘Sam Cooke’. His association with The Rolling Stones made him ever-popular. He received many prestigious music laurels till the end of the 1970s. The celebrated figure made a strong comeback in 2010, wherein he appeared in Gorillaz track 'Stylo'.
