When you or any of your near and dear one is undergoing the tumultuous cancer treatment, a beauty treatment must be the last thing on your mind. However, pampering yourself with a beauty treatment during cancer can be a real boost.

Beauty Therapies for Cancer Patients

Facials during cancer treatment

If you wish to get a facial during the cancer treatment, you need to take some precautions or more exposure to dangerous chemicals may harm you further. Make sure that the parlour providing you facial only use organic products, as they are safe for your skin.  Inform your parlour that you have cancer. Chemotherapy or radiation makes your skin fragile, so do not go for harsh treatments such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, extractions (for acne), and steams.

Hydrating facials are good choice for cancer patients, as their skin gets sensitive and dry during and after the treatment. People undergoing chemotherapy are more sensitive to ultraviolet rays so cancer patients are advised to regularly moisturise their dry skin with products containing sunscreens with an SPF 15. Check that the product does not contain any potential irritating chemicals.

Body massage

Informing your parlour in advance about the status of your treatment will help the parlour to effectively cater the unique requirements of your skin. A body massage will help you to relieve stress, headaches, pain in the neck and shoulder, and tension around your face. A complete massage will aid you by relieving body tightness. Be careful that the massage is not too hard on your body.

Dental care

Chemotherapy or radiation leaves dry mouth and gum recession, which affects your tooth health and subsequently, your smile. Dry mouth results in tooth cavity because there is lack of saliva (saliva neutralizes the acids that form cavity). To have a beautiful smile and healthy teeth, cancer patients should regularly see a dentist.

Your dentist may recommend topical fluoride treatments and cleanings on regular intervals to retain your beautiful smile. Before getting any dental treatment, consult your doctor (who is giving cancer treatment) for its safety and effects. It is advisable that cancer patients should brush twice in a day.

Sometimes, cancer patients may also lose the shine of their nails in the treatment. In such a situation, use of artificial nails or fill-ins is not recommended as they are not safe during cancer treatment. To get rid-off discoloured nails or unhealthy looking nails, have a manicure with a funky opaque nail paint to pep up the look of your hands. Cancer patients should use an acetone-free nail polish remover, as it is safe for them.
