Researchers from the British Heart Foundation (BHF) warn that smoking between one and four cigarettes a day increased the risk of heart disease.

smoking heart diseaseIf you are a social smoker, you are three times more at risk of dying from heart disease. The researchers warn ‘part time’ smokers for heart disease. Moreover, lung cancer rates also escalate in women who were smoking at least one cigarette a day.

According to Dr. Mike Knapton, associate medical director of the BHF, the research shows that many part-time and social smokers are still smoking enough every week to put their lives on the line. We need people to face-up the deadly risk they’re taking from social or part-time smoking. He added that there is no safe level for smoking - the evidence is unequivocal - and I was surprised at the effect.

The study was commissioned by the charity to mark No Smoking Day.
