After any laboratory test is performed, you will be given a copy of the report of your test by the lab or your doctor. But for a lay man it is very difficult to understand the meaning of a blood lab values. Reading the result may leave you with more questions than answers. Your doctor may order a certain test as it can help to make a diagnosis and help in making decisions about treatment.
Understanding your test result: You can make an attempt to understand the test result by reading your test report, and comparing it with the normal reference range. In most test results the normal reference range is given besides the test report.
The normal test value can differ slightly from one laboratory to other. Correct interpretation of the test results requires a knowledge regarding the ways the tests can be affected. So rather than trying to analyze the result yourself consult your doctor to understand the meaning of your test result.
