People suffering from chronic dry mouth after undergoing a cancer treatment have shown improvement in their condition after eight weeks of acupuncture.
According to a new study done in the United Kingdom, acupuncture improves the symptoms related to cancer treatment like sticky saliva and dry lips.
Although, the study’s lead author said more work is required to know the actual amount of benefit to the patients.
Dry mouth is a common side-effect of radiation therapy for head and neck cancers. The prescribed drugs used to improve this condition often lead to other health problems.

Dr. Richard Simcock, oncologist, Sussex Cancer Centre in Brighton, believes that acupuncture can help to improve the condition of the patients for whom no other treatment has been helpful.
After the end of the study, it was found that participants are likely to show 1.6 to 2.8 times more improvements in five out of six dry mouth symptoms, which include waking up at night to get water.
