Did you know stress can cause diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes is one of the common health concerns these days. The condition refers to the situation when the body is unable to regularise blood sugar or glucose levels owing inadequate insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreas for controlling glucose in cells.

Environmental, genetic factors and psychological factors have a role to play in causing diabetes. Therefore, it is quite important to keep mental concerns at bay to prevent diabetes.

Stress and anxiety

These two situations suppress emotions and contribute to type 1 diabetes by raising insulin production phenomenally in the body. The strong physiological reaction increases secretion of specific hormones. Owing to this dysfunction, normal functionality of hormones gets disrupted along with metabolic functioning. The state of depression can stop diabetic from taking medication, especially insulin shots, which in turn worsens the situation. Moreover, depression also exacerbates diabetes. Stress can result in hyperglycaemia, a condition where sugar in the blood system becomes excess, affecting insulin dosage and diabetes management.

risk factors for diabetes

Behavioural issues

Guilt and anger can affect those with diabetes. These mild conditions can become strong to impact hormone levels.

Other risk factors

There is no one reason that can be blamed for diabetes. There are several risk factors that result in diabetes. One such risk factor is autoimmune disease; it disrupts person's immune system and eliminates production of insulin. Hunger, drowsiness, sudden weight loss, numbness in extremities, vision problems and more recovery time to heal wounds are other factors that make life difficult for those with diabetes.
